South San Francisco Unified School District

The South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) community includes 15 schools supporting 8,000 students in Daly City, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.

Our mission is that in partnership with our community, SSFUSD will provide exceptional instruction, engaging experiences, and equitable and accessible opportunities and resources to further support our diverse student body so that students are equipped to learn, thrive, navigate their future with purpose, and impact their community.

In February 2024, the School Board for SSFUSD adopted our new Vision and Five-Year Strategic Plan. Teachers are at the heart of our priorities - exceptional instruction, engaged students, purposeful partnerships, empowered educators, and equity-centered systems.

The Role

SSFUSD is seeking a dynamic, equity-focused, and inclusive classroom teacher to join our school community. SSFUSD refuses to accept that the educational outcomes of students in our district are overwhelmingly predictable based on students’ race, socioeconomics, ethnicity or learning differences. We remain committed to working each day to examine systemic, institutional, and individual biases in order to dismantle systems of inequities that will enable all students to thrive.

As a teacher in SSFUSD, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing exceptional instruction, aligned to the Portrait of a Graduate, including:
  • Developing rigorous lessons aligned to grade and subject level California State Common Core Standards
  • Setting ambitious goals with students and monitoring their progress while encouraging them through frequent and persistent feedback
  • Tracking student growth, using data and feedback, and creating individualized student plans when there are areas of concern
  • Building relationships with students and families by providing regular and consistent communication
  • Creating a physical classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Facilitating learning experiences for students that are engaging and rigorous
  • Collaborating with other teachers and school leaders on daily lessons, school-wide programs, and individualized student plans
  • Meeting regular deadlines for daily lesson plans, submitting grades, and work samples
  • Working on a team of teachers and school leader to provide consistency, support, and accountability to all students
  • Engaging in professional development
  • Completing supervision duties on campus, such as morning duty, lunch duty, dismissal, and afterschool duty
  • Engaging with and participating in the greater school community through attending events and activities
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must haves:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • California or Out-of-State Multi-subject Teaching Credential (Intern Credential accepted)
  • Belief in and commitment to the mission and vision of SSFUSD
  • Ability to design and implement rich, engaging, and culturally relevant teaching units
  • Knowledge of California State Common Core Standards
  • Ability to differentiate lessons for learners with different assets
  • A dedication to learn, grow, and develop as a professional
  • Requirements for the application:
  • Updated resume
  • Cover letter outlining desire to work at SSFUSD as well as responses to at least two of the following questions:
  • How do you accommodate different learning styles in your classroom?
  • How do you build a classroom culture in which all students feel a sense of belonging?
  • Transcripts of your undergraduate degree, and graduate degrees if applicable. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application purposes only.
  • Test results: Please attach California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) results and evidence of meeting Basic Skills Requirement, such as California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), Praxis, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) results.
  • Proof of English Learner (EL) Authorization or Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate
  • Credential outlined in job description - attachment should include document number assigned by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one current or former manager.
  • Please note that if you are extended an offer from SSFUSD, you will also need to complete the following prior to beginning work, including training:
